World Alzheimer’s Month

Dementia is the sixth leading cause of death in the world (with 60-70% of dementia cases being due to Alzheimer’s disease), and there are nearly 10 million new cases worldwide every year. These statistics are staggering, and while research continues, there is still no known cure for Alzheimer’s.

Three major domestic and global organizations are leading the charge to raise awareness and work to end Alzheimer’s disease.

The World Health Organization recognizes dementia as a public health priority and now has an extensive Global Action Plan to assist lawmakers, researchers, caregivers, and those diagnosed with dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Association is working to make Alzheimer’s a national priority, raising funds for research, and advocating for lawmakers to change policy surrounding the disease. Throughout the fall, the Alzheimer’s Association hosts Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.

As global awareness of Alzheimer’s and dementia increases, those with Alzheimer’s will have better opportunities for assistance.

Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) stands as the global voice for dementia as they focus on raising awareness and challenging the stigma surrounding dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. ADI is the umbrella organization of more than 100 Alzheimer’s associations around the world aggregating research and publishing The World Alzheimer Reports, which are comprehensive sources of global socioeconomic information on dementia.

As global awareness of Alzheimer’s and dementia increases, those with Alzheimer’s will have better opportunities for assistance, and caregivers will have the knowledge and tools to provide better care.

These organizations are working to change the future for those impacted by dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and we continue to stand with them as we strive to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and prevent cognitive decline making 40Hz lights easy for you and your loved ones to adopt as part of a daily wellness routine.
